Dandruff

Dandruff is a chronic condition where there is hair loss on the scalp, which is characterized by itching and flaking of the scalp. Although dandruff is not contagious and is rarely serious, but it can be embarrassing and sometimes difficult to treat. The good news, dandruff can usually be controlled. In mild cases, only requires nothing more than to wash your hair every day with a gentle cleanser. In more difficult cases, often requiring medical shampoo.

Dandruff can have several causes, namely:

Dry skin. Dry skin is much cause scalp irritation and hair loss. Flakes of dry skin are generally smaller and slightly greasy than other cases of dandruff.

Irritation, oily skin (seborrheic dermatitis). This condition often causes dandruff. Characterized by redness, oily skin covered flaky white or yellow scales. Seborrheic dermatitis affect not only on the scalp but also other areas that have a lot of oil glands, such as the eyebrows, the nose and behind the ears, chest, and sometimes in the armpit.
Often not use shampoo. If you do not clean your hair regularly, oil and skin cells on the scalp can be formed, which causes dandruff.

Yeast-like fungi (Malassezia). Malassezia live on the scalp in many adults without causing problems. But sometimes this fungus grows out of control and take the oil out of the pores of the head. It can irritate the scalp and cause skin cells to grow. Excess skin cells will cause the majority of these cells die and fall.

Almost everyone has dandruff, but certain factors can make you more susceptible:

Age. Dandruff usually begins at a young age. But somehow it does not mean people with advanced age does not have dandruff. For some people this problem can be continued for a long time.
Men. As more men have dandruff, some scientists think male hormones have a role in causing dandruff. Men also have more skin and hair oil production contributing cause dandruff.
Hair and scalp is oily. Malassezia eat the oil on the scalp. For that reason, it has oil on the skin and excessive hair makes you more prone to dandruff.
Diet is wrong. If you are deficient diet foods that contain iron, vitamin B or certain types of fat, you're more likely to get dandruff.
